I love working around students, as it keeps me young, hip(!), and in touch with what’s going on in the world.

Meet Kate Hill. Kate has been with the department for over three years. She manages the Fast Copy Center and leads a team of dedicated student workers. Together, they are responsible for printing classroom materials, projects, posters, and exams; and providing various other services. They work primarily for the Department of Chemistry but also take on work from other campus departments. If you’ve worked with Fast Copy Center, you know they pride themselves on fast, friendly, and dependable service. You will also, no doubt, have been stumped once or twice by the daily trivia questions. (They offer candy for the correct answer!) Kate says some of the perks of her job are “surrounding myself with highly intelligent, passionate people” and enjoying the variety of her job. “I love that every day is different, and we never know what will come through the door.” Before UW, Kate had retired from over 25 years as a strategic marketing and IT consultant, primarily in the financial sector. She also ran my own wellness business until the COVID-19 pandemic. Outside of work, she continues to teach yoga and meditation classes weekly. She loves laughing with my husband and son, reading, doing yoga, riding horses, and riding motorcycles. She also trains PTSD service dogs for veterans.
