Department Spotlight: Beatriz Lemire

Beatriz Lemire, human resources generalist, with one of her baked creations

The part of my job I enjoy the most is meeting and helping people from all over the world. Even though I don’t interact with them much once they are in Madison, I am happy to be able to help them get here and transition to their new jobs and this beautiful city.

Meet Beatriz Lemire! Beatriz works in the business office for the department providing support to hiring managers by overseeing the recruiting, hiring, and onboarding processes for staff, postdoctoral researchers, and research interns. She helps faculty, staff, and researchers with questions about benefits and is the department’s contact person for immigration status support for faculty, staff, and postdocs. She works closely with the International Faculty and Staff Services office on campus. Born and raised a salvadoreña, Beatriz took the “path less traveled” to the department. She holds an MA in Tourism Management and worked for the El Salvador Tourism Board and two separate inbound tour operators. Passionate about sharing the beauty of El Salvador and Central America with others, her tourism background opened the door for her first role in the department seven years ago where she was an administrative assistant helping the team with travel and reimbursements. She moved into her current role three years ago. Her talents and interests beyond work include crocheting, baking, and spending time with her kids, playing with them and reading to them. She occasionally enjoys watching FOOTBALL (which she says most people here call soccer). At the top of her list of things she doesn’t enjoy? Going outside in the winter.
