Pete Ellingson has more than 30 years of industry experience developing technologies, leading innovation teams, and leading open innovation programs at The Procter & Gamble Company.  His first 24 years of his P&G career spanned two business units, 5 product categories, and resulted in numerous patents.  In his current role of R&D Director for open innovation, Pete champions numerous academic partnerships and provides open innovation strategy support for projects spanning polymer science, surfactant science, life science, and AI/ML.  For more than 15 years, Pete has been active in PhD recruiting: co-developing the P&G PhD Career Workshop, co-leading the P&G PhD Recruiting team for UW-Madison, and now leading P&G’s North American PhD recruiting program.

He has served on the advisory board for the Michigan Materials Research Institute at the University of Michigan, he’s an American Chemical Society member (33+ years), and is pleased to support UIDP as an elected board member and a contributing member to both the UIDP Finance Committee and the UIDP Midwest Planning Committee.

Pete and his wife have 3 grown children, the youngest of whom is a UW-Madison graduate.  They enjoy many sports and outdoor activities, including hockey, skiing, canoeing, sporting clays, and camping.
