I love the team of folks I work with! I’ve got a great working relationship with my immediate stockroom team, as well as the instructional team and department as a whole. The work itself keeps me busy but isn’t so demanding and stressful that I feel consumed by it. The department does a good job of making sure I’m well-supported.
- Let’s get to know Kurtis Casperson. Kurtis is an Instructional Laboratory Specialist. According to Kurtis, he is “one of the people responsible for setting up and overseeing the general chemistry labs, including things like making sure the rooms and equipment are clean and are in good order, making sure chemicals are handled safely, and generally being a first point-of-contact if something goes sideways in the labs. I also work with the directors and professors for lab development and TA training.” Kurtis holds a chemistry degree from UW (’17) and was originally hired as a student worker in his last month of undergrad here. He was trained as a lab technician, hired as an LTE, and then brought on full-time. Outside of work, Kurtis plays Amtgard (Live Action Role Play, or LARP!). And says he’ll “talk your ear off about it if you let me, but in short, it’s a boffer [a padded mock weapon used for simulated handheld combat] sport. The attached photo is from one of our park days. It’s a lot of fun! I made (almost) all the stuff I use, too.”
