We have such a great community here!
- Meet Kathryn Koenen! Kathryn has been serving as an administrative assistant for the department for a little over a year and a half. She holds a degree from UW–Madison, where she majored in Communication Arts Rhetoric and minored in Environmental Studies. She works with the faculty and students in the inorganic and chem ed paths to book travel and to navigate other miscellaneous purchases. She is also the admin in charge of faculty recruiting and staff travel/purchases and she works with other admins to run the seminar program. Kathryn says she really enjoys working with everyone in the department. “I also really like how varied my day-to-day duties are,” she explains. “As admins, we are basically keepers of all the random knowledge, so people come to us for help with just about anything.” Before her role here, she taught English at a private school in South Korea (K through grade 6) and met her husband there. He is originally from Georgia. Outside UW, Kathryn and her husband enjoy board games and traveling. Her favorite board game is a deck-building game called Dominion. As newlyweds, they are currently deciding between a honeymoon in Europe, Korea, or China where Ben lived for two years before he and Kathryn met.
