Department Spotlight: Tracey Reitz

Tracey Reitz, CLC director on a recent trip to Seattle to visit friends from graduate school.

Coming to work is invigorating and inspiring! My fellow CLC’ers are incredible teachers and supportive colleagues, and our students are eager to learn and grow. I learn something new every day!

Meet Tracey Reitz! Tracey has just completed her second year as our Chemistry Learning Center (CLC) director. Tracey has been with the department for 10 years and served her first eight years as an instructor for the CLC. After earning her graduate degree, Tracey applied to be a temporary FA (or now Teaching Specialist) but Jeanne Hamers gave her application to Tony Jacob who was looking for a CLC instructor, and she says, “the rest is history!” She holds a Ph.D. from UW-Madison (Zanni Group) and a BS from UW–Stevens Point. She describes her role as part-time CLC instructor and part-time director. “As an instructor, I work with small groups of students in a specific course, helping them unpack the content for deeper understanding and coaching them in learning and study skills,” Tracey explains. “As director, I am the supervisor of other CLC instructors, manage the day-to-day in the office, oversee the program operation, and represent the CLC in the department and broader learning support on campus.” She says she loves to “do the behind-the-scenes work that enables us to serve our students more efficiently and effectively.” Outside of work, Tracey enjoys “anything outside in any season, especially biking, hiking and kayaking.” Her husband and her love to travel to visit friends and family. She has been part of a local book club for many years and is also known to many for her homemade caramels around St. Nicholas Day each December.
